10+ FREE Fun Backyard Alice In Wonderland Party Invitation (Editable Canva)

Hi, mama and dad! Okay, I have to admit, I really like this birthday idea. There is something about Alice in Wonderland that makes a regular backyard feel like it could suddenly turn into a completely different place. One minute you’re looking at your patio table and a few lawn chairs, and the next minute you’re thinking, hmm, maybe this needs a giant teapot. And??? probably some flowers, a rabbit, and definitely cake!

It also has that lovely backyard picnic feeling with the gingham sides, which I think makes the whole thing feel less like a formal birthday party and more like somebody just decided, “We’re having tea outside today. Come over.”

That’s exactly the mood I’d keep.

And if you’re using the Alice’s Wonderland Bakery theme, you already have a great excuse to go a little overboard with cookies, cupcakes, teapots and colorful treats. The Disney Junior series is inspired by the classic Wonderland world and follows Alice as she creates magical treats and adventures with her friends.

Let’s Invite Everyone Over for Cake and Tea

The invitation really sets the mood here. I wouldn’t make it too serious or formal. This is a fourth birthday, not a royal wedding. Let the wording feel playful and a little curious. Something like “Come celebrate Amanda’s 4th birthday!” works beautifully. Then add the date, time, address and RSVP details underneath.

Our invitation in the example uses Saturday, June 2 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the address and RSVP information clearly listed. There’s also a little note about cake, music and games, which I actually like. It gives parents a quick idea of what they’re walking into without writing a novel on the invitation.

You could add your own little line too. Maybe “Come down the rabbit hole for cake and fun!” Or “Tea, treats and birthday fun await!”

Or just let your four-year-old choose the wording. Fair warning, though. You may end up with something like “COME TO MY PARTY BECAUSE THERE WILL BE CUPCAKES.” Which, to be fair, is a very convincing invitation.

Let’s Pick Fonts That Feel Like a Storybook

I wouldn’t go too wild with the fonts here. The invitation already has a soft, storybook feeling, so I would look at fonts like Berkshire Swash, Dancing Script, Playfair Display, DM Serif Display or Cormorant Garamond for the prettier parts.

For the details, something simple like Poppins, Nunito, Montserrat or Quicksand will keep everything easy to read. You could use a script font for your little one’s name and a cleaner font for the date and address. That gives you that whimsical feeling without making the invitation look like the text is also falling down the rabbit hole.

And honestly, that’s enough. Two fonts. Maybe three if you’re feeling brave. We’re making a birthday invitation, not designing the cover of a very complicated novel.

Let’s Get These Invitations Ready to Go

For this kind of invitation, I’d use a 5 × 7 inch card. It gives you enough room for the illustrations and all the party information while still being a really nice size to hand out or mail. For the envelope, use an A7 envelope. The 5 × 7 inches is the invitation card size, while A7 is the envelope size that fits it.

For printing, I like 250 gsm matte cardstock, around 80 lb cover. The matte finish works nicely with a soft watercolor or illustrated design like this one, and please, please print one test copy. Put it on the table. Walk away. Come back later. Read it again.

Then put the invitation inside the A7 envelope to make sure it fits properly. If you don’t want to print at home, Staples offers custom 5 × 7 invitations where you can upload your own design.

Let’s Turn the Backyard Into Wonderland

This is the part I’d have the most fun with. You don’t need to build an actual Wonderland in your backyard. A few little details can do the job. Start with a picnic table or outdoor table covered with a soft tablecloth. Add mismatched cups, little teapots, colorful flowers and some small signs pointing in ridiculous directions.

THIS WAY

THAT WAY

WRONG WAY

You know. Wonderland logic. I’d also use some gingham fabric because it matches the invitation so nicely. Red and white gingham tablecloths or napkins would instantly make the setup feel like the invitation came to life.

Then add flowers everywhere. Not expensive flowers. Just little bunches in jars, teacups or old bottles. A few oversized paper flowers could be fun too, especially if you’re setting everything up outside, and if you happen to have a stuffed rabbit sitting around the house, congratulations. You have a decoration.

And Obviously, We Need Cake

This is where you can really have fun. I love the idea of a soft pastel cake with little flowers around the edges and a tiny Alice-inspired topper. You could add your little one’s age in the middle and decorate around it with teacups, playing-card shapes or little cookies.

Alice in Wonderland 1st Birthday Cake

Or go the bakery route. A simple cake covered in colorful frosting with tiny cupcakes around it would fit the Alice’s Wonderland Bakery feeling really well. You could even make cupcakes in different colors and put them on a tiered stand. Pink, purple, blue and yellow would look adorable together.

And if you’re not much of a cake decorator, don’t panic. Buy the cake, add your own topper, and put some flowers around it.

Let’s Just Enjoy the Wonderful Mess

I think this is such a fun theme because you don’t have to make everything match perfectly. Actually, I wouldn’t. Let the flowers be a little different. Let the teacups not match. Let the signs point in completely ridiculous directions. Let the kids wear silly hats and eat too many cookies. That’s what makes a Wonderland party feel like Wonderland.

And when the party is over, there will probably be crumbs everywhere. Somebody will have knocked over a cup. There will be one random playing card underneath the sofa. You’ll find a cookie in a place where a cookie has absolutely no business being.

But your little one will probably be exhausted, happy and still talking about Alice, that’s the part I’d remember. Not whether the table looked perfect.

FAQ:

  • Can I edit this invitation on my phone?

Yes. Canva works smoothly on phones, tablets, and computers, so you can edit the invitation anywhere.

  • What paper works best for printing?

I personally recommend 5×7 A7 matte cardstock paper (250gsm) because it looks clean, premium, and uses less ink.

  • Should I print a test copy first?

Definitely. I usually print one black-ink-only test page first to check spacing and spelling before using colored ink.

  • Can I send the invitation digitally?

Of course. You can save it as PNG or JPG and send it through text, WhatsApp, email, or social media.
